we're not buying it

we're not buying it 〰️

Many people boycott with their spending choices every day, choosing to make a positive impact on the causes they care about. Let’s come together this year, learn what matters to each other and redefine gift giving.

We can make a huge statement to the oppressive entities that control our governments, through lobbying and buying power, that enough is enough: we define how we cherish and acknowledge each other.

You can’t sell us love because we’re not buying it. We are creating it.

Holiday No Buy*

We the People are not buying it — boycott in community during the largest spending season to help redefine what a gift is & what it can mean.

Join us in the first Holiday No Buy* with 3 actions.

There are many causes that benefit from your commitment to joining the 2025 Holiday No Buy* including reasons that are unique to you.

Here are some that inspired the project:

  • Free Palestine

  • BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions)

  • Community Building

  • NO IRAN WAR

  • Gift Economy

  • Hyper-Consumerism

  • Land Back

  • Mental Health

  • Slave Labor

  • Climate Change

  • Fast Fashion

  • Financial Stress and Debt

The 3 Actions for r3defining gifts.

1. Interact and educate.

Identify your intentions for the Holiday No Buy* and become an advocate. Use resources like profile banners to signal what DIY/secondhand gifts you’d prefer to receive. Share the Holiday No Buy* FAQs to help your loved ones know why you’re not buying in this holiday season.

2. Sign the commitment.

Join the movement and let people know that we are intentionally committing to not purchasing gifts for the holiday season. Sign the commitment and share with your loved ones to  bring attention to the Holiday No Buy* project. Invite your loved ones to make the pledge.

3. Find community.

Reignite your passions, creativity, and meet with aligned people: online or in person. Host meetups at libraries for letter writing, crafting, or resource sharing. Shop second hand together. Join the conversation. This is a moment wherein we can rediscover the parts of ourselves that are hungry to create, filled with joy and whimsy, and extend the love within us. From our hands to the hands of those we cherish.

Let’s define and share what we consider a gift.

None of it really makes sense anymore; there is always a holiday, always something to buy to show you’re “in the know” and showing gratitude. We are not buying that a gift means love anymore; we are defining how we cherish and acknowledge ourselves and each other.
